Two dead after trucks collide on Bai Vot - Ham Nghi expressway

A collision between two trucks traveling in the same direction on the Bai Vot - Ham Nghi expressway left three people trapped in the cabin, with two victims confirmed dead early on 8/6.

The incident occurred at 4:10 a.m. on the Bai Vot - Ham Nghi expressway. A truck with Hanoi license plates, traveling north-south, collided with the rear of a truck with Ha Tinh license plates that was moving in the same direction. The accident took place in the section passing through Truong Luu commune.

The impact trapped three individuals inside the cabin of the Hanoi-plated truck. Rescue forces quickly responded, using specialized cutting equipment to dismantle the front sections of the vehicle. They extracted the victims and transported them to a hospital for emergency care; however, two of the trapped individuals succumbed to their injuries.

At the scene, the Hanoi-plated truck's front end was severely deformed, its rear cargo bed twisted, and debris was scattered across the road. The Ha Tinh-plated truck sustained damage to its rear.

The collision caused significant traffic congestion, stretching for several kilometers in the north-south direction from shortly after 4:00 a.m. Traffic police, in coordination with other authorities, rerouted vehicles onto National Highway 1 and dispatched tow trucks to remove the damaged vehicles. As of after 8:00 a.m., the accident scene had not yet been fully cleared.

According to the expressway's operating unit, weather conditions were clear at the time of the accident, the road surface was normal, and all traffic safety systems were fully operational.

The Bai Vot - Ham Nghi expressway is approximately 35 km long, with a total investment exceeding 7,600 billion VND. Construction began in early 2023, and the expressway was opened to traffic in 4/2025. Phase one of the project features four lanes, with a maximum speed limit of 90 km/h and a minimum of 60 km/h.
