At approximately 8 p.m., a dump truck turned from National Highway 1 onto the Nhi Khe inter-commune road. Upon reaching a level crossing in Thuong Tin commune, despite lowered barriers, the driver attempted to maneuver through and became stuck on the railway tracks.
The dump truck driver struggled for several minutes but could not free the vehicle. Three seconds before the SE19 train, traveling on the North-South route, approached, the driver opened the door and jumped out.
The SE19 train struck the truck's bed, causing the vehicle to spin sideways and shattering its windows. Sand from the truck spilled onto the road, burying 4 motorbikes parked at a nearby beer stall.
The train's locomotive sustained heavy damage, and the barrier was broken. The SE19's journey was delayed by over an hour. Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
The SE19 is a high-quality train service operated by Vietnam Railways, running on the Hanoi - Da Nang route. It departs from Hanoi station at 7:50 p.m. and arrives at Da Nang station at 12:28 p.m. the following day.
Previously in February, the SE3 train, traveling from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City (TP HCM), collided with a truck whose driver was crossing the tracks despite the automatic barriers being lowered. That accident resulted in the truck driver's death.
Following that incident, the railway sector and police erected fences at many unauthorized crossings to ensure safety.
