According to a Vietnam Airlines representative, approximately 10 hours after flight VN38 departed from Copenhagen Airport (Denmark), a Vietnamese woman showed signs of labor. The cabin crew immediately provided first aid, following emergency response procedures, and sought passengers with medical expertise for assistance. Thanks to the timely coordination of the flight attendants and five volunteer passengers, the baby was born on flight VN38.

As the mother required further specialized medical examination, the flight crew decided to divert and make an emergency landing in Yangon. They also informed the airline. Vietnam Airlines coordinated with ground service providers in Myanmar and airport authorities to implement medical support and transport the mother and baby to a hospital for continued treatment.

Flight VN38 later departed at 3:30 local time on 6/9 and landed safely at Tan Son Nhat at 6:05 the same day.

A Vietnam Airlines representative stated that the flight diversion was a necessary decision in a special situation. Although adjusting the itinerary can incur costs and affect the flight schedule, the airline always prioritizes passenger safety and health.

Beyond this incident, the national airline has previously diverted flights multiple times to provide medical assistance to passengers. In June this year, flight VN524 from TP HCM to Shanghai also made an emergency landing in Hong Kong. Prior to that, in January, flight VN36 from Frankfurt to Hanoi had to land at Kolkata Airport (Calcutta, India). Vietnam Airlines advises passengers to proactively monitor and assess their health conditions to carefully consider before traveling.
