Nha Trang to build tunnel at central roundabout to reduce congestion

Khanh Hoa agreed on a plan to construct a 575 m long tunnel at the Ma Vong intersection, with a total capital of 461 billion dong, aiming to alleviate congestion in central Nha Trang.

The information was released at a meeting on the afternoon of 7/5, which reported on the investment plan for the Ma Vong roundabout intersection.

Located near Nha Trang station, the Ma Vong intersection serves as a critical crossing point for several major roads, including Thai Nguyen, Thong Nhat, Yersin, and Le Hong Phong. The presence of a railway line further contributes to frequent congestion, particularly during peak hours.

At the meeting, the Provincial Development Project Management Board presented ba investment options. These were compared with a steel overpass plan previously proposed by the former Nha Trang City People's Committee.

A professional unit recommended selecting the 575 m long closed-open tunnel option, with a total capital of approximately 461 billion dong. This choice was favored due to its savings in construction and site clearance costs, and its suitability for long-term urban planning.

The tunnel is designed to run from 23/10 road, passing under the Ma Vong intersection, and emerging onto Yersin road, connecting at the Vo Van Ky park roundabout. The project aims to reduce traffic conflicts and minimize the impact of the railway on road traffic. The implementation period is anticipated to be giai doan 2026-2030.

Le Huyen, Vice Chairman of the Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, approved the selected plan. He requested the consulting unit to clarify the effectiveness of traffic reduction and minimize the impact on properties along the route.

The Department of Construction has been assigned to coordinate with local authorities to review and adjust zoning plans for the project's implementation. A report is due to the Provincial People's Committee before 20/5.
