The northern region is experiencing its third consecutive day under the influence of a cold spell. This morning, the lowest temperature recorded was 4 degrees Celsius at the peak of Mau Son, Lang Son, which stands at approximately 1,500 meters. This marks a decrease of over 4 degrees compared to the day before yesterday.
Several other high-altitude areas also registered low temperatures: Sa Pa, Lao Cai, recorded 7 degrees Celsius; Dong Van, Tuyen Quang; Nguyen Binh, Cao Bang; and Tam Dao, Phu Tho, all saw 8 degrees Celsius; while Ngan Son, Thai Nguyen, and Pha Din, Dien Bien, recorded 9 degrees Celsius.
In Hanoi, the Ba Vi station reported temperatures as low as 12 degrees Celsius, while the Son Tay, Hoai Duc, Ha Dong, and Lang stations recorded 13 degrees Celsius.

In the central region, temperatures below 15 degrees Celsius were noted at the Hoi Xuan station in Thanh Hoa. Meanwhile, some mountainous areas, such as A Luoi, Hue, recorded 16 degrees Celsius, and Tra My, Da Nang, and Ba To, Quang Ngai, saw 19 degrees Celsius.
The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting announced that the cold air mass will continue to extend its influence into the Central and South Central regions today, causing strong northeasterly winds at level 2-3, with coastal areas experiencing level 3-4 winds.
Minimum temperatures in the Northern region are generally expected to be 12-15 degrees Celsius, with mountainous areas seeing 9-12 degrees Celsius, and some high mountainous areas potentially dropping below 8 degrees Celsius. The North Central region will generally experience 13-16 degrees Celsius, while Quang Tri to Hue will range from 16-19 degrees Celsius. Frost is likely to occur in the high mountainous areas of the Northern region.
Additionally, the cold air mass may bring showers, thunderstorms, lightning, and hail to the area stretching from Ha Tinh to Da Nang, and from eastern Quang Ngai to Dak Lak.
The meteorological agency warns that the intense and severe cold weather could affect livestock, poultry, and the growth and development of crops. Localized heavy rainfall has the potential to cause flooding in low-lying areas, flash floods on small rivers and streams, and landslides on slopes. High-intensity rain over a short period could also lead to inundation in urban and industrial areas.
