The Traffic Police Department (under the Ministry of Public Security) announced new speed limits on specific sections of the Phap Van - Nghi Son expressway, particularly those traversing Ninh Binh and Thanh Hoa provinces. On the section from Yen Thang ward, Tam Diep, Ninh Binh province (km274+111,86) to the Mai Son - Bac Ham - Tam Diep area (km288), vehicles are permitted a maximum speed of 80 km/h. Previously, the maximum speed limit was 90 km/h.
On the section from Tam Diep ward, Ninh Binh province (km288) to Truong Lam commune, Thanh Hoa province (km386+240), speed limits will be adjusted per lane. Lane one, adjacent to the central median, is designated for passenger vehicles (4 to 9 seats), trucks up to 3,5 tons, and passenger buses with up to 29 seats, with a maximum speed of 90 km/h.
Lane two, adjacent to lane one, is for sleeper buses and remaining vehicles, with a maximum speed of 80 km/h. Previously, all vehicles were permitted a maximum speed of 90 km/h. These sections with adjusted speeds primarily traverse hilly terrain characterized by steep, continuous gradients.

In 2025, the Traffic Police Department implemented speed and lane distribution changes on the Ha Noi - Hai Phong and Phap Van - Cau Gie expressways. These adjustments aim to ensure a seamless transition from high-speed to middle lanes, mitigating sudden decelerations and reducing both congestion and accident risks.
The Phap Van (Ha Noi) to Nghi Son (Thanh Hoa) expressway spans over 150 km, encompassing the Phap Van - Cau Gie, Cau Gie - Cao Bo, Cao Bo - Mai Son, Mai Son - National Route 45, and National Route 45 - Nghi Son sections. This critical arterial route significantly shortens travel time from Ha Noi to southern provinces.
