The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting stated the northern region will maintain scattered overnight rain, early morning fog, and daily high temperatures of 23-26 degrees Celsius until 20/1.
Beginning 21/1, a strong cold spell will sweep across the northern region, bringing showers and severe cold to the lowlands, and extreme cold to the midlands and mountainous areas. Lowest temperatures are forecast at 8-11 degrees Celsius in mountainous and midland areas, and 11-13 degrees Celsius in the lowlands.
US-based Accuweather forecasts Hanoi's temperatures at 18-26 degrees for the first two days of the week, dropping to 12-15 degrees by thursday. High-altitude areas above 1,500 m, such as Sapa (Lao Cai), are expected to experience the lowest temperatures of the spell, 8-13 degrees Celsius, by next weekend.

The central region will experience dry, sunny weather with minimal rain until 20/1, with daily high temperatures reaching 26-30 degrees and overnight lows of 18-22 degrees. From the afternoon of 21/1, the North Central region will be affected by the cold air, bringing cloudy skies and rain.
From 18-25/1, the southern region and Central Highlands will generally be dry and sunny with light morning fog. The Central Highlands will experience cold early mornings and evenings, with overnight and early morning lows ranging from 15-18 degrees and daily highs of 27-30 degrees. The southern region will see temperatures of 31-33 degrees.
Over the past two days, the northern region has experienced cloudy skies and light fog due to a modified cold air mass. On the morning of 17/1, an additional wind convergence zone at 5,000 m brought light showers to the Northeast region.
