Northern Vietnam braces for heavy rain next week

Influenced by a tropical depression, the rain belt will shift from central Vietnam to the north next week, while rainfall will decrease in the central highlands and southern Vietnam.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting stated that tomorrow, 18/8, northern Vietnam will be affected by the western circulation of a tropical depression, leading to heavy rain along the eastern coast. Rainfall from 18/8 to 19/8 in northeast Vietnam is expected to be between 40 and 120 mm, with some areas exceeding 250 mm.

From 20/8 to 23/8, the rain will spread to the mountainous and midland areas in the north due to the weakening circulation of the tropical depression.

Accuweather forecasts temperatures in Hanoi next week to range from 25 to 31 degrees Celsius. High-altitude areas above 1,500 m, such as Sa Pa (Lao Cai), will experience temperatures between 17 and 26 degrees Celsius early in the week and between 16 and 21 degrees Celsius by the weekend.

Central Vietnam has experienced heavy rainfall for the past three days. From 7 pm on 16/8 to 8 am today, rainfall reached 99 mm in Mai Lam (Thanh Hoa), 147 mm in Hoang Mai (Nghe An), 170 mm in Ky Thinh (Ha Tinh), 98 mm in Hai An (Quang Tri), and 160 mm in Cu Lao Cham (Da Nang).

From tonight until tomorrow, the provinces from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri are forecast to continue experiencing widespread rain from 50 to 120 mm, with localized areas exceeding 250 mm, due to the influence of the intertropical convergence zone connected to the tropical depression.

Starting 19/8, rainfall in central Vietnam will decrease, and sunny weather will return as the intertropical convergence zone shifts northward and the tropical depression weakens.

In the central highlands and southern Vietnam, rainfall is expected to gradually decrease from today until 20/8, with only scattered showers and thunderstorms and sunny days. The highest temperatures in the central highlands will range from 29 to 32 degrees Celsius, and in southern Vietnam from 33 to 35 degrees Celsius.

From 21/8 to 23/8, these two regions will experience increased rainfall due to the resurgence of the southwest monsoon.
