Northern Vietnam to experience temperatures above 37°C from July 17

From July 17-19, northern Vietnam is forecast to experience temperatures above 35°C, with some areas exceeding 37°C, coupled with high humidity.

Following three days of relatively mild temperatures (26-34°C in Hanoi), the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting predicts a heatwave will begin in northern Vietnam on July 17 due to a western low-pressure system. Temperatures are expected to reach 35-37°C, with some areas exceeding 37°C, indicating intense heat.

The heatwave is expected to persist until July 19, characterized by high temperatures and humidity, creating muggy conditions. Afterward, thunderstorms are anticipated to return to the north, bringing cooler temperatures.

Accuweather forecasts Hanoi's temperature to rise by 4°C from today's temperature, reaching 28-38°C on July 17, before returning to 26-34°C by the weekend. High-altitude areas above 1,500 m, such as Sa Pa (Lao Cai), will experience temperatures of 20-25°C mid-week.

Central Vietnam, influenced by the Foehn wind effect, has already experienced hot weather in the provinces from Nghe An to Da Nang and the eastern regions of Quang Ngai to Dak Lak. Temperatures have generally reached 35-36°C, with some areas experiencing even higher temperatures, such as Dong Ha (Quang Tri) at 37°C and Huong Son (Ha Tinh) nearing 37°C.

Meteorological agencies predict the Foehn wind effect will continue to impact central Vietnam for the next two days. From July 17, the influence of the western low-pressure system will further increase and expand the heatwave. Temperatures in central Vietnam are forecast to reach 36-38°C, with some areas exceeding 38°C, and this heatwave is expected to last until July 20.

Northern Vietnam experienced unusually high rainfall in June, a trend that continued into the first half of July. Meteorological agencies report that rainfall in northern Vietnam and the provinces from Thanh Hoa to Gia Lai was 30-60% higher than the multi-year average. This increased rainfall has kept the average temperature across the country close to the multi-year average.

For the next month, total rainfall in northern Vietnam and from Thanh Hoa to Hue is forecast to be 20-40% higher than the multi-year average for the same period, while the average temperature nationwide is expected to remain close to the multi-year average.
