Over 500 billion VND to tackle major traffic bottleneck in Quy Nhon

Gia Lai province plans to allocate 512 billion VND for the renovation of the Dong Da - Hoa Lu five-way intersection, a key gateway to Quy Nhon city center, with the majority of funds earmarked for compensation and resettlement.

On 19/3, Luu Nhat Phong, director of the Provincial Transport and Civil Works Project Management Board (the investor), announced that the unit is currently developing a resettlement area for approximately 40 affected households.

According to Phong, the area's prime location and high property values have prolonged compensation and support efforts, which account for a significant portion of the total investment. The project is anticipated to break ground late this year.

The Dong Da - Hoa Lu five-way intersection is a crucial entry point to Quy Nhon city center. For many years, it has been plagued by frequent congestion, particularly during peak hours, posing a risk of accidents.

The Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee approved the project in 2025, with a total capital of 512 billion VND. Of this, 443 billion VND is allocated for compensation and resettlement, 17,6 billion VND for construction, and 48 billion VND for contingencies, with the remainder designated for management and consulting. The implementation is scheduled for the 2025-2029 period.

The design plan outlines an at-grade renovation of the intersection, incorporating geometric adjustments to reduce traffic conflicts. Specifically, the curve radius from Tran Hung Dao street turning into Dong Da will be increased. The central roundabout island will be shifted northeast and its diameter expanded from 15 m to 30 m.

Tran Hung Dao street, at its junction with Nguyen Tat Thanh, will also be widened from 19 m to 22 m, accommodating 6 lanes. Additionally, the project includes new median strips, sidewalks, greenery, and improved lighting and drainage systems to complete the infrastructure and reorganize traffic flow in the area.
