Passenger bus collides with garbage truck on Hanoi - Thai Nguyen expressway

A 16-seat passenger bus, attempting to overtake at high speed, collided with a sanitation garbage truck on the Hanoi - Thai Nguyen expressway, resulting in the driver suffering a broken leg and traffic congestion stretching over 2 km.

Around 14h45, a passenger bus registered in Hanoi was traveling towards Hanoi. Nearing the exit for the Dan - Tan Lap intersection in Thai Nguyen province, the driver abruptly increased speed from approximately 50 km/h to over 70 km/h to overtake a truck going in the same direction. Moments later, the bus struck the rear of a garbage truck that was performing sanitation work in the lane adjacent to the median strip.

According to authorities, heavy dust from the garbage truck limited visibility for the passenger bus before the collision. Despite this, the driver did not reduce speed. The forceful impact caused the passenger bus driver to suffer a broken leg, requiring emergency hospitalization. There were approximately three passengers on board at the time.

At the scene, the front and windshield of the passenger bus were destroyed. Traffic in the area experienced congestion extending for nearly 2 km. The scene was cleared by approximately 16h30.

The Hanoi - Thai Nguyen expressway spans nearly 71 km, features four lanes, and has a designed speed of 80-100 km/h. It traverses through Hanoi, Bac Ninh, and Thai Nguyen.

In 9/2025, a limousine collided with a water tanker truck on the Phap Van - Cau Gie expressway, causing a chain-reaction accident that injured 8 people.
