The My Thuan Project Management Board recently submitted a pre-feasibility study report for the Can Tho 2 Bridge construction investment project, including its approach roads, to the Ministry of Construction. The project is proposed for implementation in Vinh Long province and Can Tho city.
According to the proposed plan, the project's starting point is at the existing Cha Va intersection, the end of the My Thuan - Can Tho Expressway on the Vinh Long province side. The ending point connects to the IC2 intersection, which intersects with the National Highway 91 - Nam Song Hau connecting route and also marks the beginning of the Can Tho - Hau Giang Expressway.
The Can Tho 2 bridge will span the main Hau River channel, featuring a navigation clearance of 300 meters. It is designed with six lanes, a speed of 100 km/h, and each lane measuring 3.75 meters wide. The main bridge is expected to utilize a cable-stayed structure, with no emergency stopping lanes planned to optimize costs.
The approach roads include an expressway section approximately 15 km long, combined with improvements to the Cha Va and IC2 intersections. Along this route, there will be some medium and small bridges, designed to full six-lane capacity, a speed of 100 km/h, and incorporating emergency stopping lanes.
The preliminary total investment for the project is 29.525 billion VND. This includes construction and equipment costs of approximately 21.238 billion VND, project management and consulting costs of 2.124 billion VND, and compensation, support, and resettlement costs of 2.653 billion VND. The remaining portion is allocated for contingency costs.

The My Thuan Project Management Board recommends using state budget funds to implement the project. Construction is anticipated to commence in 2027 and be completed after five years.
The Can Tho 2 bridge is expected to link the My Thuan - Can Tho and Can Tho - Ca Mau expressways, which are part of the Eastern North - South Expressway axis. It will also connect two horizontal axes: Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang and Ha Tien - Rach Gia - Bac Lieu.
This bridge is expected to contribute to completing the strategic transport network in the region, enhancing connectivity among economic centers and major transport hubs, such as airports, seaports, and river ports. Additionally, it aims to alleviate congestion on National Highway 1A, ensure traffic safety, and stimulate socio-economic development in the Southwest region.
