Resort with nearly 3,000 rooms discharges polluted wastewater into Mui Ne sea

The Apec Mandala Wyndham resort, featuring nearly 3,000 rooms and catering to luxury guests, has been found discharging polluted wastewater into Mui Ne sea.

On 28/8, the Lam Dong Department of Agriculture and Environment announced a fine of 270 million VND against IDJ Vietnam Investment Joint Stock Company, the investor of the Apec Mandala Wyndham resort.

The resort, spanning over 45,800 m2 and comprising 2,912 rooms across four blocks—Ruby, Diamond, Sapphire, and Marble—along with various service facilities and swimming pools, began operations on 30/4/2023. It primarily serves luxury domestic and international guests.

In June, the Department of Agriculture and Environment conducted an inspection, confirming that the project had invested in a centralized wastewater treatment system with a capacity of 990 m3 per day and night, as stipulated by its environmental license.

Treated wastewater was channeled through a pipeline, crossing Provincial Road DT 716, and then discharged into the coastal area in front of the resort.

Analysis of wastewater samples taken before discharge into the environment revealed that ammonium levels, typically originating from feces and urine, exceeded permitted standards by 1.81 times.

In addition to the fine, the company must cease discharging wastewater that exceeds standards, implement corrective measures, and report the results before 13/9.
