Seven Workers Collapse in Rice Drying Kiln

One worker has died and 6 others are hospitalized after collapsing from smoke inhalation at a rice drying kiln in Cai Be commune.

On the morning of 31/3, Nguyen Trung Tam, 53, and Nguyen Van Thum, 58, both from Dong Thap province, ascended to the rice drying kiln area at Sang Trang Food Business Co., Ltd. to begin their work.

Upon noticing significant smoke and dust in the kiln area, the two workers attempted to cool it down. Shortly after, both experienced difficulty breathing and called for help.

Hearing their cries, 5 fellow workers: Nguyen Thanh Tan, 35; Nguyen Thanh Liem, 37; Phan Ut Lon, 35; Nguyen Thanh Sang; and Nguyen Trung Tin, 36, all also from Dong Thap, climbed into the kiln area to assist.

Tragically, all 7 individuals succumbed to smoke inhalation and collapsed. They were rushed to Cai Be Medical Center for emergency treatment. Two hours later, Nguyen Van Thum passed away. The remaining 6 are now out of critical condition and are receiving ongoing medical care.

Police are currently investigating the cause of the incident.
