On the morning of 1/8, a 6-year-old boy was attacked by a black dog, weighing approximately 20 kg, while sitting in front of a rental complex in Bau Tram residential area, Long Khanh ward. Residents, alerted by his cries, intervened to chase the dog away and rushed the boy to emergency care for severe head and ear injuries.

The dog fled after the attack. Surveillance footage revealed the animal roaming freely on the street before it unexpectedly lunged at the boy. At the time of the incident, the dog was neither muzzled nor leashed, and its owner remains unidentified.

Local authorities confirmed the boy received rabies vaccine and antiserum, and his condition is stabilizing. The Long Khanh ward People's Committee issued a public warning, urging residents to remain vigilant. They are also reviewing dog-owning households to identify the animal's owner and ensure compliance with regulations.

Under Decree 204/2026, which became effective on 1/8, individuals bringing dogs to public areas without a muzzle or leash face fines of 1-2 million dong. Similar penalties apply to owners who allow their dogs to roam freely in public without supervision.
