Two teenagers drown in Yen So lake

Two teenagers drowned after going for a swim in Yen So regulating lake in Vinh Hung ward; their bodies were found 6-8 hours later.

Around 2:30 PM, two teenagers, aged 15 and 18, from Vinh Hung ward, went to Yen So lake in Hoang Mai ward with a younger child. The two boys entered the water to swim, while the younger child remained on the shore, watching their belongings.

After some time, when the two teenagers did not resurface, the younger child ran home to Linh Nam street to alert others.

Authorities immediately launched a search operation, deploying three boats. The first victim was recovered around 8:35 PM, with the second located over an hour later.

Yen So regulating lake comprises five interconnected lakes, spanning a total surface area of 132.8 hectares and boasting a storage capacity of 4 million cubic meters of water.

The primary function of Yen So regulating lake is to temporarily store rainwater, thereby preventing Hanoi from experiencing severe flooding. During hot summer days, residents frequently visit the lake for recreation and to cool down.
