Upgrade Tan Van - Nhon Trach section to expressway

The Tan Van - Nhon Trach section of subproject 1A will be upgraded from a rural class three road to a four-lane expressway with a speed of 100 km/h, increasing the total capital by nearly 2,000 billion VND.

The Ministry of Construction recently approved an adjustment to the investment policy for subproject 1A, increasing the preliminary total investment from approximately 6,955 billion VND to 8,912 billion VND. This significant capital boost facilitates the upgrade of the Tan Van - Nhon Trach section to a four-lane expressway, designed for speeds of 100 km/h.

The revised funding structure includes an ODA loan of about 253 million USD from the Korea Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF), equivalent to 6,108 billion VND, with counterpart funds amounting to approximately 2,803 billion VND.

The My Thuan Project Management Board is tasked with completing the necessary adjustment procedures. The Board will also explore options to shorten construction time, ensuring the project operates synchronously with the entire Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3. Additionally, coordination with the donor is required to finalize the methods and conditions for the supplementary loan.

This vital 8,75 km section spans 6,3 km through Dong Nai province and 2,45 km within TP HCM, utilizing approximately 77 hectares of land. A central component is the Nhon Trach bridge, stretching about 2,6 km, which will enhance connectivity between TP HCM and Dong Nai.

The initial plan for the route envisioned a rural class three road, with a design speed of 80 km/h and a width of 20,5 to 26 meters, featuring four oto lanes and two mixed-use lanes. This section already incorporates Rach Chay bridge, four viaducts at its approach ramps, and a trumpet-shaped interchange linking with the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway.

To achieve expressway standards, the project will add a new Nhon Trach bridge branch, parallel and symmetrical to the existing bridge, with a width of 19,75 meters. Furthermore, intelligent transportation systems, non-stop electronic toll collection, and vehicle weigh stations will be integrated into the design.

This upgrade will significantly shorten travel time from Nhon Trach to TP HCM, boosting transportation connectivity between the two localities. It will also help divert traffic from urban areas, thereby reducing congestion.
