On 22/7, General Phan Van Giang, Vietnam's Minister of National Defense, hosted a welcome ceremony for Mr. Chan Chun Sing, Singapore's Minister for Defence, on his official visit to Vietnam.

During their meeting, General Phan Van Giang commended the comprehensive and substantive development of the defense relationship between Vietnam and Singapore, which has contributed to strengthening political trust between the two countries. He proposed that both sides continue to enhance trustworthy and effective cooperation, focusing on delegation exchanges at all levels, maintaining consultation and dialogue mechanisms, enhancing training, sharing professional expertise, exchanging young officers, and collaborating between military branches and medical services.
Minister Giang emphasized that Vietnam and Singapore are both active members of ASEAN with many shared strategic interests. The two countries' agreement to upgrade their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 3/2025 will be a significant milestone, opening a new chapter in bilateral cooperation, including in the defense sector.

Bilateral military cooperation has been effectively implemented through information exchange channels, professional exchanges, training cooperation, and maritime security and safety. Vietnam appreciates Singapore's support in providing specialized training and language scholarships, as well as accepting Vietnamese naval officers, coast guard, and border guard personnel to work at the Information Fusion Centre (IFC).
Minister Chan Chun Sing affirmed that Singapore values its defense relationship with Vietnam and supports elevating bilateral cooperation to a level commensurate with the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Singapore is ready to welcome Vietnamese officers for training and continue to maintain effective dialogue mechanisms, especially the upcoming Defence Policy Dialogue to be held in Vietnam.
