On the morning of 18/11, Tran Tri Quang, deputy secretary of the Vinh Long Provincial Party Committee, was elected chairman of the provincial people's committee by the provincial people's council with over 99% of the votes.
Previously, the Secretariat had assigned Quang to serve as deputy secretary of the Vinh Long Provincial Party Committee and nominated him for the chairmanship.
Quang assumes leadership of the Vinh Long provincial government, succeeding Lu Quang Ngoi, who was assigned as deputy secretary of the Ca Mau Provincial Party Committee and elected chairman of that province's people's committee on 17/11.

Speaking upon his appointment, Quang stated his commitment to working with the provincial people's committee to build an ethical, innovative, decisive, and public-serving administration. He emphasized economic restructuring, linked with growth model innovation, to create breakthroughs. Quang also highlighted the mobilization of resources for synchronized and modern infrastructure development, alongside comprehensive cultural and social advancement, human resource quality improvement, and social welfare assurance.
A native of the former Dong Thap province, Quang holds a master's degree in transport construction engineering. His career includes roles such as: an official at the Dong Thap Department of Transport, vice chairman of Sa Dec City People's Committee, deputy director and then director of the Department of Transport, secretary of the Cao Lanh City Party Committee, vice chairman, acting chairman, and chairman of Dong Thap province.
In July, when Dong Thap province merged with Tien Giang, the Prime Minister appointed Quang as chairman of the new Dong Thap provincial people's committee, a position he held until now.
Following its merger with Ben Tre and Tra Vinh, the new Vinh Long province spans 6,263 km2 with a population of over 3,3 million, ranking fifth and third respectively in the southern region. It comprises 124 communes and wards.
The province's economic growth during the 2020-2025 period averaged 5,58%. By 2025, its economic scale is projected to exceed 288 trillion VND, with per capita income surpassing 85 million VND. The locality aims to become a rapidly and sustainably developing province in the next term, serving as a maritime economic and renewable energy production hub for the Mekong Delta.
Quang's assignment aligns with a policy by the Politburo and the Secretariat, which stipulates that all provincial and city chairpersons must not be from the local area.
