Impressive moments at Ho Chi Minh City night marathon

Thai champion kneels at the finish line, runners dressed as gas station attendants, and a female guerilla fighter create highlights for the VnExpress Marathon Ho Chi Minh City Midnight 2026.

The VnExpress Marathon Ho Chi Minh City Midnight 2026 took place in the early morning of 22/3, featuring many memorable moments. The event is Vietnam's largest night marathon, with over 13,000 domestic and international athletes participating.

One of the most striking images at the finish line was Arthit Soda, a former SEA Games gold medalist from Thailand. He clasped his hands in front of his chest and knelt, an act of profound gratitude after winning the 21km distance with a time of 1 hour, 11 minutes, and 5 seconds.

Earlier in the race, Arthit had intensely pursued Bui Van Loi (Vietnam) and Ouk Rohit (Cambodia) for more than half the course. This created the most thrilling competition of the event, captivating spectators as the three athletes pushed their limits.

Many runners embraced the opportunity to express their creativity through costumes, often drawing inspiration from current events. Runner Pham Trung Tinh, for example, dressed up as a gas station attendant for the 10km distance, reflecting the public's recent interest in rising gasoline prices.

Sharing Trung Tinh's concept, Tran Minh Hoang Hung also captured attention by transforming into a female gas station attendant. His costume, complete with two pigtails and a croptop, was a notable sight along the race route.

The race also featured costumes with historical and cultural significance. Female runner Duong Nha Khoa dressed as a guerilla fighter, proudly carrying the national flag of Vietnam, adding a patriotic touch to the event.

Beyond specific themes, the marathon served as a canvas for diverse and imaginative outfits. Participants showcased a wide array of creative attire, from a ghost costume paired with a traditional conical hat...

...to a spider-man costume, worn by a runner competing in the demanding 21km distance, demonstrating both humor and athletic spirit.

Another male runner in the 21km race stood out with a vibrant and colorful costume, contributing to the festive atmosphere of the night marathon.

Beyond the costumes, individual gestures added to the race's memorable moments. Runner Than Van Dao performed a soldier-like salute after successfully completing his 21km run, a display of discipline and accomplishment.

Spectators actively participated in the lively atmosphere, offering encouragement to the runners. A female spectator high-fived a male runner, boosting his morale during the challenging race.

Others captured the excitement by posing for cameras. A male spectator jumped high, striking a dynamic pose, embodying the energetic spirit of the event.
