After one year recovering from that horrific injury, the Brazilian-born forward is making a strong return. At the 2026 ASEAN Cup, Xuan Son has been exceptional, helping the Vietnam national team reach the final for the second consecutive time. He currently leads the tournament's scoring charts with Dinh Bac, both having 5 goals.

"I still remember what happened two years ago, but there is no particular message upon returning here", Xuan Son stated regarding his return to Rajamangala Stadium. "My only desire is to contribute to the team and secure a victory."

Do Hoang Hen, another naturalized player, expressed his pride in participating in a major final. The midfielder is determined to perform well in tomorrow's first leg on 22/8, aiming to build an advantage with his teammates before the second leg at home in My Dinh Stadium.

This marks the third consecutive ASEAN Cup final where Vietnam will face Thailand. Vietnam lost 2-3 in 2022 but secured a 5-3 aggregate victory in 2024. The first leg of the 2026 ASEAN Cup final is scheduled for tomorrow, 22/8, at 20h. Four days later, the second leg will be played at My Dinh Stadium. Tournament regulations state that the away goals rule does not apply in the final.
