A violent brawl erupted around 10 p.m. on 17/7 at the Kaanapali Alii resort on west Maui island, Hawaii. Local police responded to reports of a disturbance involving about 30 people near the resort's pool area.

Seven tourists from California, aged 17 to 62, told police they were assaulted and had chairs thrown at them by a group of young people. At least six victims required medical treatment for serious injuries, including one person who suffered a severe head injury. When officers arrived, there were about 10-15 individuals at the scene, according to the Maui Police Department.

The attacked family now alleges the assailants were racially motivated, calling them "haole boys" (a term for white people or non-native Hawaiians). Joseph Headfield, a family member, stated that the attackers used outdoor furniture as weapons. Prior to this assault, the victims also accused a group of young people from Maui of harassing them outside the resort.

Police arrested a 20-year-old man from Makawao on assault charges but released him later. Alana Pico, spokesperson for the Maui Police Department, stated they are aware of the serious impact of the incident and are committed to conducting a comprehensive, fair, and objective investigation.

German security consultant Sven Leidel stated that the "Run, Hide, Tell" principle is the recommended emergency response for violent attack situations.

First, tourists should react quickly, leave the dangerous area, and consider a safe escape route. If a safe exit is available, run; otherwise, seek cover and encourage others nearby to leave. If escape is not possible, find a safe hiding place with good concealment. If you can, lock or barricade doors to create a barrier against attackers. When it is safe to do so, call the police and provide relevant information such as the attacker's location, appearance, clothing, and equipment.
