Explore mangrove forests and local culture in Krabi, Thailand

Krabi offers an immersive journey through its mangrove forests and indigenous culture, allowing visitors to connect with nature, local communities, and deeply enriching experiences.

The Thung Yee Peng community village, located on the eastern side of Koh Lanta Yai island in Krabi, is a place where mangrove forests have been preserved for generations. Over a century ago, the first Muslim families settled here, building their lives around fishing and farming. To this day, the community maintains a lifestyle deeply connected to nature, shaping Thung Yee Peng's distinct identity.

In Thung Yee Peng, visitors can explore the mangrove forests at various times of the day. In the early morning, as the sun rises, a traditional boat ride followed by breakfast on the river is a popular choice. In the late afternoon, visitors can continue their boat journey to witness the sunset and observe the natural phenomenon of bioluminescence on the water.

Throughout the trip, boats navigate through the intricate mangrove forests, offering opportunities to observe native birds, learn about the coastal ecosystem, and hear stories of the conservation efforts sustained by the local community for many generations.

Nestled among Krabi's characteristic mangrove forests and limestone mountains, the Baan Nai Nang community provides visitors with a chance to understand local life through an "eat-learn-do" experience model. Here, guests do more than just observe; they participate in daily activities with local residents, from preparing meals to learning about the community's production methods and livelihoods.

A key feature of Baan Nai Nang is its commitment to Zero Food Waste. The local community maximizes available ingredients for cooking and minimizes food waste in daily life. Visitors can join locals in cooking activities, learning how to select, prepare, and use ingredients resource-efficiently. These experiences offer insights into an environmentally conscious lifestyle and how the local community upholds these values across generations.

While Thung Yee Peng and Baan Nai Nang offer journeys through mangroves and local cultural experiences, Ko Klang brings visitors closer to the art and cultural identity of Southern Thailand. Here, a Batik fabric painting workshop, a wax-dyeing technique passed down through generations, is a memorable experience for many who visit.

Under the guidance of local artisans, visitors learn the traditional Batik painting process, from using hot wax to create patterns to the final dyeing of the fabric. The patterns often draw inspiration from nature and the daily life of the local community. Beyond the finished product, this experience provides an opportunity for visitors to observe and practice each step of the craft, learning more about an art form preserved for generations in Koh Klang.
