Tien Well - a freshwater spring by the sea in Quy Nhon

Nestled at the foot of Eo Gio's cliffs, Tien Well is a natural freshwater spring situated right by the sea, intimately connected with generations of residents in Nhon Ly fishing village.

From the entrance of the Eo Gio tourist area, following the coastal path for about 200 m, Tien Well lies at the base of a cliff in Quy Nhon Dong ward. It is a small pond, about 5 m2 wide, with banks built from pebbles at the foot of the mountain. From a rock crevice, clear water flows continuously, collecting into a small pool.

Despite being meters from the ocean waves, this water source tastes naturally sweet and flows year-round, even through prolonged droughts. According to geological experts, freshwater springs near the sea appear in many places worldwide, including Vietnamese islands like Ly Son, Con Dao, and Phu Quoc.

Initially, Tien Well was just a natural rock hollow where water seeped from the mountain and collected. Later, local authorities reinforced it with stone to protect the water source and facilitate visits.

Nguyen Thach, 80 years old, from Ly Luong neighborhood, recounts that in the past, on bright moonlit nights, fairies often came here to bathe, hence the name Tien Well (Fairy Well). Though a spoken legend, the story adds a unique charm to the coastal landmark.

Beyond its mythical elements, many households previously used this water for daily activities, especially during the dry season. "After fishing trips or sea swims, locals often stopped here to rinse off salt water, do laundry, or take water home", Mr. Thach recalls.

This unique characteristic made Tien Well an integral part of the fishing village community's life. For local residents, it is not just a natural water source but also a witness to difficult periods in the Nhon Ly coastal region.

For many years, residents have actively preserved the area around the well. Visitors are often reminded not to litter or impact the water source to maintain its pristine condition.

Amidst the famous scenic attractions of Phuong Mai peninsula, Tien Well offers a distinct experience. While Eo Gio impresses with its cliffs facing the open sea and Ky Co entices with its sandy beaches and clear blue water, Tien Well draws visitors with its narrative of harmony between nature and the lives of coastal inhabitants.

During their journey through Nhon Ly, many tourists pause at Tien Well to hear local legends, learn about fishing village life, and experience a simple cultural facet of this coastal land.

The presence of this spring enriches Quy Nhon's tourism landscape - a destination listed by international travel magazine Lonely Planet among its notable destinations for 2026, thanks to the pristine beauty of Eo Gio and Ky Co.
