Before any vacation, travelers often focus on planning their trip, booking flights and hotels, and packing luggage. Consequently, many overlook selecting appropriate attire for their flight. Most simply want to wear something as comfortable as possible, especially for long journeys.
Cher Dallas, a TikToker and flight attendant based in Indiana, USA, shared that airplanes can be dirty in ways ordinary passengers may not realize, but flight crews are well aware of.
In a video posted on her personal page, the flight attendant stated that the one item she most strongly discourages wearing on a plane is a jumpsuit or one-piece garment. She called wearing such attire a "taboo" and emphasized she "would never wear one".
"When you go to the lavatory, that outfit will touch the floor, a place often soiled with urine and not regularly cleaned", she explained.
Similarly, she also stated that she would never wear shorts because of the surprising number of times dirty diapers are changed directly on seats. Additionally, during flights, people sometimes vomit, or are generally unclean and still sit on the seats.

When it comes to footwear, many wish to wear sandals or flip-flops on a plane, anticipating warm weather at their destination. However, Dallas advises against this practice.
"Airplane carpets are very dirty. People vomit on them, bring pets on them, and even walk barefoot. I would not want my toes directly touching such things", the flight attendant added.
Leggings are also not a good choice for air travel, despite their popularity. Yoga pants and leggings are often made from synthetic fibers, which are flammable and can stick to the skin in a fire. If an aircraft experiences an emergency, wearing leggings could pose additional risks to passengers.
To minimize discomfort or the risk of illness during a flight, fashion experts at the multinational retail group Marks & Spencer in the UK recommend choosing soft, loose, breathable, and layered clothing made from cotton or natural fibers.
