The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) accused the US and Israel of "once again attacking the Bushehr nuclear power plant" on the evening of 24/3, adding that a projectile struck the facility's compound. "Preliminary information indicates the incident caused no financial or technical damage, nor any casualties, and other areas of the plant were unharmed," the agency stated.
The AEOI reiterated that a projectile had previously hit the Bushehr plant compound in mid-March, causing no human or material damage.

Iranian officials affirmed that attacking "peaceful nuclear facilities" violates international regulations and commitments to protect such facilities from military operations. The AEOI warned that such incidents could lead to dangerous and irreversible consequences for regional safety and security, especially for countries bordering the Persian Gulf.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) stated it had received notification from Iran. "Director General IAEA Rafael Grossi reiterated his call for maximum restraint to avoid nuclear safety risks during conflicts," the agency reported.
The US Department of Defense and the Israeli military have not commented.
US President Donald Trump on 21/3 warned he would destroy all power plants in Iran if the country did not fully open the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours. Two days later, he announced he was negotiating with Iran to resolve the conflict and postponed attacks on power plants and energy facilities in Iran for 5 days.
Located approximately 1,200 km south of the capital Tehran, Bushehr is Iran's sole operating nuclear power plant. Russia began its construction in 1995, and it was connected to the grid in 2011.
Russia's state nuclear corporation Rosatom stated in 11/2025 that about 3,000 specialists were working at the plant, including nearly 700 Russian citizens. Russia's RT channel on 18/3 reported that approximately 480 Russians were still working at the facility.

Russia has urged against strikes that endanger this facility. "We believe that attacks targeting nuclear facilities pose extremely serious dangers and could lead to irreversible consequences," Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said.
After being attacked by the US and Israel on 28/2, Iran launched retaliatory operations, targeting military objectives and energy infrastructure in the Middle East with missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles.
Tehran also imposed a near-complete blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, through which about 20% of the world's crude oil passes. This move disrupted oil and gas shipments, causing global fuel prices to surge.
