Ambassador Pham Truong Giang stated this is the first foreign government-level delegation to visit Vietnam since the country completed its organizational restructuring after the 14th National Party Congress. This visit marks a new phase after more than 75 years of diplomatic relations, opening opportunities for more substantive cooperation following previous high-level visits.
Prime Minister Fico has consistently shown positive sentiment and emphasized promoting relations with Vietnam. He has made practical decisions to support Vietnam, notably facilitating the recognition of the Vietnamese community as the 14th ethnic minority in Slovakia. He also made two official visits to Vietnam in 2008 and 2016.
After Slovakia separated from the Czechoslovak Federation in 1993, Vietnam and Slovakia declared their inheritance of the relations between Vietnam and Czechoslovakia. February 2, 1950, was established as the date of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
