A routine traffic stop escalated into a high-speed nightmare for a female driver after a series of poor decisions. The woman behind the wheel of a Malibu decided not to stop, instead accelerating to over 225 km/h. The incident resulted in a severe crash, but fortunately, no fatalities were reported.
The incident occurred on 24/4 when a traffic officer spotted the Malibu speeding through a construction zone at nearly 8129 km/h, where the speed limit was 72 km/h. The officer activated lights and sirens, accelerating quickly to catch up with the sedan, which was then traveling at 169 km/h.
Instead of pulling over, the driver decided to flee, and the situation quickly escalated. The officer easily kept pace with the Malibu, and both vehicles reached 225 km/h. The Chevrolet driver repeatedly weaved through lanes to avoid other vehicles.
Upon approaching a curve, the fleeing driver maintained speed, while the police vehicle behind decelerated. Mid-curve, the Chevrolet swerved to the left shoulder, collided with a fence, spun violently in a cloud of dust, and came to rest upside down in the middle of the road. Debris scattered widely, and the car sustained heavy damage.
The driver, later identified as 20-year-old Krista Bunch, was trapped inside the overturned vehicle and rescued by emergency services. She fortunately survived the crash and was transported to a nearby hospital before being taken into custody. According to police reports, Bunch admitted to "panicking" and rushing due to a personal matter.
By May, the pursuit video was released. Meanwhile, Bunch faces a lengthy list of charges, including: fleeing, speeding, reckless driving, and property damage.
