The accident occurred in the early morning of 27/9 on the Bharatmala highway, in Gujarat state. A Range Rover, bearing a Gujarat license plate, was traveling when a cow suddenly ran across the road.
The high-speed collision caused the vehicle to graze the animal before it slammed into the median barrier. The force of the impact was so severe that it ripped the vehicle apart, scattering debris across the road.

Nearby residents quickly arrived at the scene to assist and called for an ambulance. Medical personnel confirmed that two people in the car died before reaching the hospital. The remaining victim sustained severe injuries.
This incident has sparked renewed public outrage over the presence of stray livestock on major transportation routes. A local government representative criticized the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the central government for failing to uphold their safety commitments.
"Citizens pay significant taxes and road fees, yet in return, they face a lack of safety. NHAI's poor management has led to repeated tragic accidents due to cattle encroaching on highways," the representative emphasized. They called on authorities to urgently review and install safety barriers, particularly at rest stops along the route.
