On the morning of 10/1 on Vo Chi Cong street, a van signaled right to move into the middle lane. A taxi was already driving parallel in that lane. To find a gap to merge, the van accelerated, positioning its front ahead of the taxi, while the taxi continued in its lane.
Unable to change lanes, the van then stopped in the middle of the road. The driver opened the door without looking behind, causing it to collide with the side mirror of a car traveling in the left lane. After the impact, the van driver became aggressive towards the taxi driver, escalating tension in the already busy traffic.
When driving on multi-lane roads and preparing to turn, drivers should observe early, signal sufficiently, and only change lanes when a safe gap is available. Accelerating or forcing other vehicles to gain a lane creates a risk of collisions and conflicts. Additionally, when stopping on the road, drivers must check carefully before opening doors, particularly on high-traffic routes. Unexpectedly opening a door can endanger passing vehicles, leading to accidents or unnecessary disputes.
According to Decree 168/2024 on traffic violations, an improper lane change carries a fine of 600,000-800,000 VND. Unsafely opening a car door and causing an accident incurs a fine of 20-22 million VND and a deduction of 10 points from the driver's license.
