First all-electric Mercedes CLA arrives in Vietnam

The all-electric CLA 200 boasts a range of approximately 500 km, an estimated price below 1,7 billion VND, and is set to launch next october.

The all-electric Mercedes CLA, officially imported, has recently appeared in Vietnam. This German-imported vehicle is available in a single variant, the CLA 200, featuring the AMG Line package for both its interior and exterior.

Upon its release, the CLA 200 will be one of six all-electric models from the three-pointed star brand in the Vietnamese market, joining the EQS sedan, EQS SUV, EQB, EQE SUV, and G 580. From 2025, Mercedes is adjusting its battery electric vehicle (BEV) development strategy. Instead of creating a distinct EQ sub-brand with new naming conventions, the company will offer BEV versions for each existing model line, treating them as powertrain options for customers.

Mercedes' approach aims to streamline its product portfolio, providing diverse powertrain choices within a single model line, depending on the level of electrification in different markets. This strategy is somewhat similar to BMW's.

The all-electric CLA 200 is developed on the Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture (MMA) platform, which prioritizes electric and hybrid vehicles. The CLA's exterior design resembles a scaled-down version of the EQS sedan.

The CLA measures 4.723 mm in length, 1.855 mm in width, and 1.468 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2.790 mm. Its dimensions are comparable to the C-class currently sold in Vietnam, though its wheelbase is slightly shorter.

In Mercedes' product positioning, the CLA is a 4-door coupe-style variant, offering a less overtly fashionable aesthetic than the 2-door C-class coupe. The gasoline-powered CLA was previously sold in Vietnam but was discontinued several years ago due to low sales.

The version arriving in Vietnam features the AMG Line design package, including 19-inch five-spoke sports wheels and a simulated grille adorned with 142 illuminated three-pointed star LED motifs. It also offers a 101-liter storage capacity under the hood.

Inside, the vehicle is equipped with a large, edge-to-edge MBUX Superscreen infotainment display, running on the new-generation MB.OS operating system and integrating the MBUX Virtual Assistant. In addition to the 10,25-inch screen behind the steering wheel, there are two 14-inch screens extending from the center of the dashboard to near the A-pillar.

The car has a range of approximately 500 km.

Other features include power-adjustable front seats with three memory positions, 64-color ambient interior lighting, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a panoramic sunroof.

The CLA 200 features an 800 V electrical architecture and a 58 kWh battery pack, providing a WLTP-certified range of 459-542 km. The vehicle supports fast charging up to 200 kW.

The Mercedes CLA 200's motor is located on the rear axle, producing 224 horsepower and 335 Nm of torque. It uses a two-speed transmission and can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 7,5 seconds.

Dealers are quoting an estimated price below 1,7 billion VND for the all-electric CLA 200. If Mercedes Vietnam adopts this pricing, the model will become the brand's most accessible all-electric product in the domestic market. The German brand's current cheapest electric vehicle is the EQB SUV, priced from 2,309 billion VND. With its price point and design, the CLA currently faces no direct competitors in Vietnam.
