Sinotruk and TMT Group develop commercial vehicle production complex

The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation, aiming to upgrade the new energy commercial vehicle manufacturing and assembly model in Vietnam.

Sinotruk and TMT Group have signed a strategic cooperation agreement for the 2026-2031 period, targeting the development of a long-term production platform for both traditional internal combustion engine and new energy commercial vehicles in Vietnam. This agreement leverages TMT Group's manufacturing capabilities, distribution system, and market understanding, combined with Sinotruk's technology, supply chain, and research and development (R&D) expertise.

The partnership between Sinotruk and TMT Group began in 2/2016 with an agreement for truck production, assembly, and distribution. This led to the inauguration of an assembly line with a capacity of 20,000 vehicles a year. During the 2018-2019 period, their relationship evolved into a key manufacturing partnership, involving the operation of new production lines, the establishment of a Sinotruk distribution system, and a five-year strategic collaboration agreement.

To elevate this cooperation beyond the previous phase, TMT Group and Sinotruk will develop a local completely knocked down (CKD) production and assembly complex at the Cuu Long Automobile factory in Van Lam commune, Hung Yen province. This initiative aims to progressively increase the localization rate and optimize products for conditions in Vietnam and other ASEAN countries.

The two parties also project that by 2027, this complex will supply 10,000 trucks a year, supporting Sinotruk's business plans in Vietnam and paving the way for exports to other countries in the region.

A representative from TMT Group stated that the company serves as Sinotruk's priority partner in Vietnam, utilizing the TX cabin for its tractor, heavy-duty, and heavy dump truck lines. This new-generation cabin is positioned by both companies as a strategic product. The new phase of cooperation will also expand to include light and medium-duty segments, with market launch anticipated in Q4.

According to TMT Group, a key pillar of this cooperation is the development of new energy commercial vehicle lines. Both companies will jointly research, assemble, localize, and commercialize electric and hybrid trucks, along with other green transport solutions. Sinotruk will provide the technology platform and core systems, while TMT Group will manage production capabilities, market deployment, and the establishment of a service ecosystem.

Supporting this direction is the TMT-Egreen ecosystem, which offers charging station solutions, aiming to build infrastructure to support new energy commercial vehicles upon their market introduction. TMT Group plans to strengthen its nationwide dealership network and collaborate with distributors to expand its service workshop system, technical teams, and spare parts supply, as well as warranty and maintenance services.

TMT Group reports that both parties aim for their alliance to become a leading force in new energy commercial vehicles in Vietnam by 2030, with an objective to supply these vehicles to the ASEAN region.

"This cooperation marks a new development step in the relationship between the two companies, demonstrating a long-term investment orientation in production capabilities, technology transfer, and the development of a modern, sustainable, and competitive automotive industry within the regional value chain," said a TMT Group representative.
