On 10/4, Yamaha introduced the Gear 125 scooter, featuring a hybrid engine in the popular segment. This model targets daily urban commuting needs with a practical design and fuel-saving technologies. Positioned as Yamaha's second hybrid scooter in Vietnam, the Gear 125 follows the Grande Hybrid, which was launched in late 2018.
The Gear 125 Hybrid's core innovation lies in its hybrid system, which functions as a mild-hybrid, similar to those found in automobiles. This system provides short bursts of acceleration assistance when starting from a standstill, for up to 3 seconds. Enhancing its efficiency, the scooter also features a smart generator for smooth startups and a stop & start system designed to reduce fuel consumption.
Powering the scooter is a 124,9 cc Blue Core Hybrid engine. This single-cylinder, air-cooled unit meets Euro 3 emission standards, delivering a maximum power of 8,3 hp and peak torque of 10,6 Nm. Yamaha states a fuel consumption rate of 1,7 liters per 100 km. Compared to the Grande Hybrid, which debuted in 2018, the Gear 125 shows slight improvements in its power, torque, and fuel efficiency figures.
