Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (Hactl), an independent air cargo handler in Hong Kong, China, announced it has achieved its goal of using 100% closed-loop recycled plastic sheets in its cargo operations.
Starting in 2022, Hactl began using plastic sheets containing 30% to 50% recycled material, progressively moving towards a fully recycled solution.

In collaboration with the Nano and Advanced Materials Institute (NAMI), the two parties successfully developed 100% closed-loop recycled plastic sheets, utilizing post-consumer plastic waste generated from Hactl's own operations.
The project's implementation is expected to reduce virgin plastic consumption and motivate other industry businesses to adopt similar sustainable solutions. The long-term objective is to promote an environmentally friendly operational culture as a widespread standard, rather than just an individual choice.
Amy Lam, Hactl's director of sustainability, stated that the company's previous plastic sheets contained 30% to 50% recycled material. "We aim to accelerate the transition to a circular economy and deliver tangible benefits to both the industry and society. Implementing 100% closed-loop recycled plastic sheets helps achieve this goal", she said.
