VN-Index stages strong reversal

Numerous stocks surged after news of leadership "bottom-fishing", helping the Ho Chi Minh City exchange's benchmark index reverse from a decline to a gain of nearly 12 points.

Before today's session, many securities companies anticipated the market would continue to adjust downwards to the 1,650 point range. The benchmark index for the Ho Chi Minh City exchange performed as predicted this morning, losing nearly 20 points due to cautious sentiment and scattered margin calls on some deeply corrected stocks.

However, strong capital inflow into leading stocks quickly reversed the index before the midday break. From negative territory, the VN-Index moved above its reference level for the rest of the session, closing with a gain of nearly 12 points. The VN-Index ended the session at 1,680 points, while the VN30 reached 1,824 points.

The Ho Chi Minh City exchange saw nearly 190 stocks increase, with six stocks hitting their daily ceiling. VCI, from Vietcap Securities Company, was among the few stocks that rose to its maximum allowed limit, reaching 19.700 VND, following news that former general director To Hai registered to buy over 31 million units. PDR, of Phat Dat Real Estate Development Company, also saw strong movement as chairman Nguyen Van Dat planned to acquire 20 million shares to restructure his investment portfolio.

By sector, securities showed the most enthusiasm. In addition to VCI and VND hitting their ceilings, other pillar stocks such as SSI, VIX, HCM, and TCX all increased over 1% compared to their reference levels.

In the real estate group, stocks of many developers like Khang Dien, Nam Long, Bluemarq, Ha Do, and DIG increased over 2,5%. Meanwhile, Vingroup-related stocks such as VIC, VHM, and VPL edged up slightly, fluctuating between 0,1-0,7%.

Most oil and gas stocks also reversed from decline to gains, though the margins were relatively modest. BSR led this group with a 2,3% increase compared to its reference level, while PVT, GAS, and POW added 0,1-2%.

In addition to improved scores, the market also showed positive signals regarding liquidity. Today's matching order value exceeded 19.200 billion VND, 5.000 billion VND higher than earlier in the week. SHB led in trading volume, with nearly 80 million shares, equivalent to 900 billion VND, changing hands.

Foreign investors maintained caution amidst significant fluctuations. This group disbursed over 2.900 billion VND but sold off 4.900 billion VND, resulting in a net withdrawal of nearly 2.000 billion VND. This marked their strongest selling session in three weeks.

According to some analyst groups, the market's improvement in points, liquidity, and breadth indicates a significant reduction in supply pressure. The index is expected to soon reclaim the psychological 1,700 point mark.

Despite the market recovery, investors are advised to prioritize portfolio risk management. Experts from Rong Viet Securities Company suggest using technical recovery phases to restructure portfolios, actively reducing the weighting of stocks that have breached support levels. For buying, investors should only make exploratory disbursements into stocks with unique stories and heavily discounted prices, avoiding the "chasing rally" mentality.
