The Hanoi Department of Education and Training announced on the evening of 28/4 that approximately 22,000 9th-grade students have chosen not to sit for the public 10th-grade entrance exam this year. This figure is 2,000 fewer than last year, despite the total number of applicants increasing by nearly 23,000 to 125,000. This year, the enrollment quota for public 10th-grade classes is over 82,660 students, representing over 56% of the total applicants. This quota includes the three new schools: Hoang Quan Chi, Viet Hung, and Minh Chau.
Competition for public high schools remains fierce. Yen Hoa High School has the highest competition ratio for first-choice applications at 1:3.35, with over 2,500 students applying for its 765 slots. Le Quy Don - Ha Dong High School ranks second with a ratio of 1:3. Other schools among the top 10 for highest competition ratios include Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, Kim Lien, Phan Dinh Phung, Cau Giay, Thang Long, Tran Phu, and Hoan Kiem.
Considering only first-choice applications, Yen Hoa and Le Quy Don remain at the top, followed by Kim Lien, Viet Duc, and Phan Dinh Phung. A surprise entrant is Tung Thien High School, ranking 12th with 1,400 applications. When considering all three application choices, Bac Luong Son High School received the most applications, exceeding 7,500. Schools in this top 10 group are mainly located in suburban areas, typically having cut-off scores of 3-4 points per subject, such as Dai Mo, Minh Quang, Dai Cuong, and Luu Hoang.
The exam will take place from 30/5 to 1/6. Results and cut-off scores for Hanoi's public 10th-grade classes are expected to be announced from 19 to 22/6.
