Hanoi to schedule 10th grade exam for late June

Hanoi's 10th grade entrance exam is expected in late June, approximately two weeks later than usual, to avoid coinciding with the high school graduation exam schedule.

A representative from the Hanoi Department of Education and Training announced on the afternoon of 21/11 that this decision aligns with the academic year framework set by the Ministry of Education and Training. The 2026 high school graduation exam is provisionally scheduled for 11-12/6/2026.

In previous years, Hanoi typically held the public 10th grade exam during the first week of June. According to the Department, maintaining the old schedule could result in the two major exams overlapping or occurring too close together. Furthermore, holding the exam at the beginning of June would not allow students sufficient time for preparation, as the academic year concludes on 31/5/2026.

Both examinations involve over 100,000 candidates. Therefore, to ensure adequate conditions for personnel, venues, and other logistical requirements, the Department anticipates holding the 10th grade exam later than in previous years.

In 2025, Hanoi's 10th grade entrance exam took place on 7-8/6/2025, involving nearly 103,000 candidates—the highest number nationwide.

Approximately 64% of students secured spots in public schools, totaling over 81,000 students. Compared to previous years, the number of test-takers decreased, while the admission rate increased.
