The decision was signed on 19/5 by Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son. Bui Duc Tho, born in 1975 in Duc Tho, Ha Tinh, is an alumnus of the university, having studied there from 1992 to 1996. Before his appointment as the new director, he served in various leadership capacities, including vice head of department, acting vice head of department, head of science management, head of personnel and organization, vice rector, party committee secretary, vice director, and chairman of the National Economics University Council.
On the same day, Minister Hoang Minh Son also signed decisions appointing associate professor, doctor Bui Huy Nhuong and professor, doctor Nguyen Thanh Hieu as vice directors of National Economics University for a five-year term.
Bui Duc Tho began his career as a lecturer at the university, a role he held until 2010. During this period, he pursued postgraduate studies at Boise State University in the United States and conducted doctoral research in public administration at Kyung Hee University in South Korea.

National Economics University, established in 1956 under its initial name School of Economics and Finance, became Vietnam's 9th university in 11/2024. The university is currently one of the largest in the country, with approximately 25,000 full-time students and over 1,200 faculty and staff members. It offers around 70 undergraduate majors and nearly 30 doctoral programs. As part of its development strategy for the 2021-2030 period, the university aims to be among the top five universities in Vietnam.
