Nha Trang University revises admissions: no bonus points, higher IELTS conversion

Nha Trang University will only use IELTS certificates for English score conversion in its 2026 admissions, eliminating bonus points to ensure fairness among applicants.

Nha Trang University announced its 2026 admissions plan on 19/11. The university expects to admit 3,800 students through three methods: direct and priority admission; high school graduation exam scores (on a 40-point scale); and competency assessment exam scores organized by two national universities.

Under the high school graduation exam score method, applicants with an IELTS certificate ranging from 5.0 to 7.0 or higher can convert their scores to 6-10 points for the English subject.

Last year, applicants with IELTS certificates could either convert their scores to the English subject or receive bonus points. The bonus points ranged from 0.8-4 for those with IELTS scores from 4.0 to 6.0. If converted, they would receive 6-10 points.

Associate Professor Dr. To Van Phuong, Head of the Training Department, stated that removing bonus points for applicants with foreign language certificates aims to ensure fairness in admissions. Many students in remote, disadvantaged areas lack the opportunity to study foreign languages or take international certificate exams.

Explaining the higher conversion requirements, Mr. Phuong noted that this helps to better screen applicants.

Additionally, the university introduced three new admission combinations: Math, Literature, Physics, Chemistry; Literature x2, History, Geography; Math x2, Literature, Japanese; and Math x2, Literature, Geography. All admission combinations require two subjects: Math and Literature.

In 2025, Nha Trang University admitted 3,800 students. The benchmark scores ranged from 20-27/40, with Law and Marketing majors having the highest entry requirements.
