University of Information Technology appoints new rector

Associate Professor, Doctor Nguyen Tan Tran Minh Khang, 52, has been appointed rector of the University of Information Technology, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City.

The Director of Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City signed the appointment decision on 1/6.

Associate Professor, Doctor Nguyen Tan Tran Minh Khang, born in 1974 in Quang Nam, is an alumnus of the university's information technology program. After graduating, he completed his master's program in 2001 and earned his doctoral degree in 2014, both in the same specialization.

Nguyen Tan Tran Minh Khang began his teaching career in 1996 and has remained dedicated to it, working at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Initially, he worked at the University of Natural Sciences, Ho Chi Minh City, before joining the University of Information Technology (UIT) in 2012. He served as vice rector from 2017 until early this year, when he was appointed acting head of the university.

The new rector has authored 75 scientific articles, with 11 published in prestigious international journals indexed in the ISI/Scopus systems. He also led three ministerial-level scientific projects and one institutional-level project, all successfully evaluated with results ranging from good to excellent. His research projects primarily focus on two areas: computer vision and timetabling using metaheuristic methods.

The University of Information Technology (UIT) is one of the 8 member universities of Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, with approximately 10,000 students and over 200 full-time lecturers.
