During Prime Minister Le Minh Hung's visit on 9/7, Associate Professor Doctor Dao Xuan Co, Director of Bach Mai Hospital, reported that the facility had already handled 27,598 outpatient visits. It averages over 2,300 patients daily, with peak days seeing up to 3,000 visits.
The hospital is currently providing inpatient care for 1,003 patients, surpassing its designed capacity of 1,000 beds. Over the past two weeks, medical staff have discharged 1,039 individuals, transferred 172 cases, and conducted over 204,000 lab tests and tens of thousands of imaging diagnoses.

Despite the rapid increase in patient numbers, the hospital's 9 modern operating rooms, equipped with hybrid, dsa, and c-arm systems, are operating safely. Surgical teams have successfully performed 395 operations, including nearly 100 critical emergency cases. These include saving a patient with a severe spinal injury on the opening night, 26/6, and a complex open-heart surgery for an 80-year-old patient in cardiogenic shock. To meet the increasing demand for treatment, the hospital's leadership plans to double the number of operating rooms in the near future, Co stated.
The new Ninh Binh facility allows local residents to access tertiary healthcare services directly, eliminating the need to travel to Hanoi. Associate Professor Co highlighted that this enables critically ill patients to utilize the "golden hour" for emergencies such as stroke and myocardial infarction, significantly improving survival rates and reducing complications.
As a special-grade hospital, the new Bach Mai facility is expected to significantly ease the burden on its main campus in Hanoi, which typically handles 8,000 to 10,000 patient visits daily.
Prime Minister Le Minh Hung commended the medical team for ensuring smooth operations from the hospital's opening days. He directed the Ministry of Health to refine mechanisms enabling the hospital to proactively manage, invest in key specialized departments, and accelerate digital transformation to international standards. Beyond patient care, the Ninh Binh facility is expected to serve as a training and technology transfer center, enhancing the capacity of the entire regional healthcare network.

Yesterday, Viet Duc Hospital's Ninh Binh facility also began operations. Initially, the hospital will utilize 300 beds (30% of its capacity), gradually expanding to 1,000 beds as demand increases. The facility boasts 44 modern operating rooms, with 12 operational from the outset, and the rest to be opened as needed for efficient operation. A team of 412 staff, specialists, and doctors, all holding practicing certificates, has been deployed to provide medical care.
Prime Minister Le Minh Hung remarked that the operation of both Viet Duc and Bach Mai hospitals' Ninh Binh facilities represents a significant milestone for the healthcare sector. This initiative contributes to the goal of making high-quality medical services more accessible to the public.
"Investing in healthcare is not just an investment in medical treatment, but also an investment in the future, in human resource quality, and in the nation's sustainable development," the Prime Minister emphasized. He expressed confidence that these two hospitals would soon become modern, regional-level tertiary care specialized facilities.
