Hope Foundation partners with Hanoi Medical University Hospital to support disadvantaged child patients

Hope Foundation and Hanoi Medical University Hospital signed a cooperation agreement to launch the “Sun of Hope” program, aiming to provide treatment support for children facing difficult circumstances.

The "Sun of Hope" program will support child patients aged 0 to under 18, who belong to poor or near-poor households, or have local certification of difficult circumstances. The total expected sponsorship value for 2026 is 400 million VND.

"We hope to contribute a small part to provide more treatment opportunities for these children, because when many hands come together, seemingly fragile things will gain more hope," said Nguyen Xuan Tu, CEO of Hope Foundation, at the signing ceremony of the cooperation agreement with Hanoi Medical University Hospital on the afternoon of 16/4.

The program prioritizes child cancer patients and ethnic minority children from highland regions. The support level for treatment costs, after deducting amounts covered by health insurance and other sources (if any), is a maximum of 30 million VND for regular treatment cases and a maximum of 100 million VND for surgery, stem cell transplantation, or organ transplantation. In special cases, the support level may be adjusted based on actual circumstances and mutual agreement between the two parties. Each patient can receive support up to two times per year, with each instance separated by a minimum of 6 months.

Covered costs include: examinations, hospital beds, tests, medication, medical supplies, infusions, procedures, and surgeries, according to the publicly listed prices at Hanoi Medical University Hospital.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Lan Hieu, Director of Hanoi Medical University Hospital, stated that many children from difficult family backgrounds have received support from the Foundation. The hospital hopes that charitable activities reach patients directly, ensuring they benefit, with the goal of serving patients through the Hope Foundation as a bridge.

Hanoi Medical University Hospital is one of 15 partner hospitals in the "Sun of Hope" program, alongside hospitals such as National Children's Hospital, Viet Duc Hospital, Hue Central Hospital, Children's Hospital 1, and Children's Hospital 2.

At Hanoi Medical University Hospital, many families facing difficult circumstances encounter significant financial burdens when their children suffer from severe illnesses. For example, 14-year-old Lo Quynh Giang from Son La was the first child patient to receive 50 million VND in support from the "Sun of Hope" program.

The child suffered a brain hemorrhage due to a cerebral vascular malformation and was transferred to Hanoi in critical condition at the end of 2025. The costs for embolization and surgery far exceeded the family's ability to pay.

Launched in 3/2021, "Sun of Hope" is a collaborative initiative between Hope Foundation and the "Mr. Sun" program, aiming to support treatment costs for children with severe illnesses. To date, the program has assisted over 2,800 child patients nationwide, with a total sponsorship amount of 61 billion VND.

In 2026, the program aims to continue supporting 1,000 child patients, becoming a financial and emotional pillar for families on their treatment journey.

Hope Foundation, operated by VnExpress newspaper and FPT Group, has been active for 10 years. The Foundation supports building schools, libraries, and roads in many localities, and assists with treatment and surgery costs for disadvantaged child patients.
