Cancer patients, especially those with colon cancer, require a suitable diet to ensure adequate nutrition before, during, and after treatment. This diet helps them fight the disease and supports recovery.
Patients undergoing cancer treatment need more protein than usual to strengthen their immune system, maintain muscle mass, and repair cells. Foods rich in protein such as meat, fish, eggs, and dairy products are essential components of their meals.

Cancer patients often experience metabolic disorders that can lead to muscle loss and exhaustion if they do not receive sufficient nutrition, particularly protein. Therefore, avoiding meat or excessively restricting protein-rich foods can worsen their health.
Meat also provides essential amino acids that the body cannot synthesize on its own. These are important for cell regeneration, especially after surgery.
Patients should consume meat in moderation, aiming for about one palm-sized portion per meal. This should be combined with plant-based protein sources like nuts, soybeans, and green beans to boost overall health. Prioritize white meats such as fish, chicken, and duck, along with eggs and milk. It is advisable to limit processed meats like sausages, bacon, and canned goods. Simple cooking methods like boiling, steaming, and light stewing are preferred over grilling until charred or deep-frying.
A balanced diet should include diverse foods such as fruits, vegetables, yogurt, various nuts, and rice. Adequate hydration is also crucial; drink small sips throughout the day, even when not thirsty, to ensure the body stays hydrated. Patients can also drink various liquids like plain water, fruit juices, and herbal teas to enhance appetite and maintain electrolyte balance.
