Thai actress has double uterus, one kidney

Actress Bow Maylada discovered she has a double uterus and only one kidney after fainting from severe menstrual pain

During a recent appearance on the "Kuy Uiy" YouTube talk show, actress Bow Maylada, born in 1996, revealed details about a congenital health condition. Doctors discovered a double uterus and a single kidney during emergency surgery for a chocolate cyst.

Since childhood, Bow experienced prolonged, heavy menstrual periods accompanied by severe cramping. This culminated in her fainting outside a bathroom. Her mother found her exhausted on the floor and rushed her to the hospital. There, doctors diagnosed a chocolate cyst, a form of endometriosis, and ordered emergency surgery. During the operation, the medical team observed her uterus was divided, forming a heart shape.

Despite these congenital conditions, Bow's ovaries function normally, allowing for the possibility of a twin pregnancy. However, doctors recommended a single pregnancy due to her smaller-than-average uterus size. The absence of one kidney also affects her physical stamina, making her tire quickly and unable to engage in high-intensity sports. Her sole kidney has grown to the size of two normal kidneys, ensuring vital functions. Bow emphasizes the importance of maintaining her health, as any complications would necessitate immediate dialysis due to the lack of a backup organ.

Data from the Cleveland Clinic indicates that uterus didelphys, or a double uterus, is a rare condition affecting approximately 0,3% of women. The National Library of Medicine (PubMed) highlights a close connection between this condition and the urinary system. The uterus and kidneys develop from the same embryonic tissue, explaining why women with a double uterus often have a congenitally missing kidney. Experts from Mayo Clinic note that these women face a higher risk of miscarriage or premature birth due to limited uterine volume. Doctors require strict medical supervision throughout their pregnancies.

Bow's experience illustrates how many individuals often mistake severe menstrual pain for normal physiological symptoms. Women typically only discover a double uterus during examinations for other gynecological conditions, which then lead to specialized imaging tests.

Despite her unique physical conditions, Bow Maylada maintains a positive outlook and plans to start a family and have children. Born in 1996 in Bangkok, she entered the entertainment industry in 2010 as a member of a girl group. After the group disbanded, Bow won Thai Supermodel 2013, which opened doors for her acting career with Channel 7.
