Between 10/6 and 20/6, the Cybersecurity and High-Tech Crime Prevention and Control Department, in collaboration with other specialized units and local police, identified and questioned 79 individuals. The majority admitted to interacting with and commenting on distorted and false information.
Police investigations revealed that most individuals did not fully recognize the schemes of hostile forces operating online, inadvertently contributing to the spread of malicious information. After receiving information about the Cybersecurity Law, these individuals voluntarily removed their offending comments, disengaged from the reactionary online platforms, and signed pledges not to re-offend.
The city police are currently compiling evidence to process the over 20 remaining cases.
Earlier, on 31/12/2025, the Hanoi City People's Court tried and sentenced in absentia Nguyen Van Dai, 56, from Hung Yen province, and Le Trung Khoa, 54, from Thanh Hoa province. Both received 17-year prison sentences for the crime of "making, possessing, disseminating, or propagating information and documents against the Socialist Republic of Vietnam," as per Clause 2, Article 117 of the Penal Code.
In the same case, Do Van Nga, 47, from Gia Lai province, received a 7-year prison sentence. Huynh Bao Duc, 41, from TP HCM, was sentenced to six years and six months in prison, and Pham Quang Thien, 47, received five years and six months in prison for the same offense.
Da Nang City Police urge citizens to remain vigilant and verify information before engaging with online content. They emphasize that commenting in agreement, promoting, or sharing distorted and inciting content constitutes a legal violation and will lead to strict penalties.
