On 29/4, Thach Chanh Tra, 54, residing in Long Hiep commune, was temporarily detained by the Vinh Long Provincial Police Investigation Security Agency. He faces charges of "abusing democratic freedoms to infringe upon the interests of the State, the legitimate rights and interests of organizations and individuals," under Article 331 of the Criminal Code.
Investigators allege that from 2025 to present, Mr. Tra used social media to participate in discussions distorting Party policies and State laws. He is also accused of slandering Vietnam for ethnic oppression, insulting the reputation of organizations, State agencies, and individuals, and undermining national and religious unity. Local authorities and mass organizations repeatedly educated and reminded him, but he maintained an extremist attitude, negatively impacting local security and order.
