The incident occurred five days earlier, at noon, when Lan's sister, Hue, 41, of Minh Thien hamlet, left for work. Her husband took their child to school. The couple, living next door to Hue's parents, only latched their front and back doors, leaving them unlocked.
Approximately two hours later, Hue returned home to find her bedroom ransacked and her safe broken open. She discovered that cash and gold, valued at over 800 million VND, had been stolen. She immediately reported the theft to the police.

While Hue's residence lacked security cameras, the scene investigation suggested the perpetrator was someone known to her. Police began interviewing individuals connected to the case.
One day after the theft, Lan and Yen confessed to the crime. Lan admitted that she knew her sister's safe contained a significant amount of money and gold, which motivated her to recruit an accomplice to carry out the theft.

Authorities recovered the stolen items from a motorcycle trunk, including over 300 million VND in cash, five gold necklaces, and more than 10 gold rings, bracelets, and earrings.
