Stabs captain to death after being told to 'stop drinking'

Nguyen Van Khanh, 30, used a knife to stab the captain to death after being scolded and told to stop drinking on a fishing boat anchored in the Southwestern sea.

On 24/3, An Giang Provincial Police announced Khanh's temporary detention for investigation into murder.

According to the investigation, fishing boat KG93168TS was captained by a 46-year-old man, with a crew including Khanh and others. On 7/3, the boat and another vessel were anchored close to each other in the sea bordering An Giang and Ca Mau. This was due to them not going out to sea because of rising fuel prices. During this time, crew members from both boats frequently visited each other to drink alcohol.

On the afternoon of 19/3, Khanh and four individuals from the other boat were drinking. Around 5 p.m., the captain scolded them, demanding they stop drinking alcohol, and then went into his cabin to rest.

Feeling insulted, Khanh took a knife and stabbed the captain in the neck. The victim ran to the deck, calling for help, but collapsed and died on the spot.

After committing the crime, Khanh was restrained by the crew members and brought ashore to report to Tay Yen Border Guard Station. The case was then transferred to An Giang Provincial Police for investigation.
