A 6-year-old girl died, and her mother and 11-year-old sister sustained serious injuries after a 40-year-old man attacked them with a knife in Nam Can commune, Ca Mau province. Police apprehended the suspect, who was reportedly intoxicated.
The incident occurred on the evening of 5/10 in Ap 3, as a 39-year-old elementary school teacher picked up her two children from school. Around 17h20, as they arrived home, a man wielding a knife pursued and attacked them.
Hearing cries for help, nearby residents discovered the attack but could not intervene due to the man's aggressive behavior. They promptly reported it to authorities.
Nam Can commune police arrived at the scene and, with the help of residents, apprehended the man. He was arrested in an intoxicated state.
The three victims were rushed to a medical facility for emergency care. Sadly, the 6-year-old girl died at the hospital. Her mother and 11-year-old sister, both seriously injured, were transferred to a higher-level hospital for treatment.
Vo Van Hanh, Chairman of Nam Can Commune People's Committee, confirmed the incident that afternoon. According to local residents, the suspect and the teacher knew each other. Police are currently investigating the case.
