Tran Thi My Chi, 35, from Vinh Te ward, was criminally detained by An Giang Provincial Police on 5/10 for investigation into murder.

Chi was previously serving an 8-year prison sentence for illegal drug trafficking, which had been suspended because she was raising a young child.

Chi had divorced her husband, who lives with a 43-year-old woman in Hoa Lac commune. Ongoing disputes over child support payments led to frequent arguments and insulting messages between Chi and her ex-husband's partner.

Investigators reported that at noon on 3/10, fueled by prior disputes, Chi brought a knife to her ex-husband's house. The two women argued, leading to a scuffle. After initial intervention, Chi went outside and threw a brick at the woman, but missed.

The confrontation escalated as both women continued to scuffle and attack each other with knives. During the struggle, Chi stabbed her opponent multiple times, resulting in the victim's death before reaching the hospital.

Chi subsequently surrendered to the police.
